This feeling of time\u2019s transience overtook me because not just one, but a multitude of new experiences and events were happening each day. At that moment, I realized how diverse my experience with the organization would be\u2014and I was right. <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-3351\" src=\"https:\/\/www.blogcielomareterra.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/IMG_3436-224x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"224\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.blogcielomareterra.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/IMG_3436-224x300.jpeg 224w, https:\/\/www.blogcielomareterra.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/IMG_3436-765x1024.jpeg 765w, https:\/\/www.blogcielomareterra.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/IMG_3436-768x1028.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.blogcielomareterra.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/IMG_3436-1147x1536.jpeg 1147w, https:\/\/www.blogcielomareterra.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/IMG_3436-1530x2048.jpeg 1530w, https:\/\/www.blogcielomareterra.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/IMG_3436-scaled.jpeg 1912w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 224px) 100vw, 224px\" \/>From the expected (as an environmental organization) harvesting of Fiascone\u2019s aromatic tomatoes, to the unexpected role of playing a noblewoman in a medieval festival, my time here has been full of adventures.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Though I participated in all the events our organization hosted, that first assignment laid the foundation for my contribution. I\u2019ve truly enjoyed creating and publishing content to share our unique experiences with others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">While taking pictures and videos of us, I\u2019ve often felt incredibly lucky to be here\u2014sharing meals with these extraordinary people and being part of a purposeful community that we build together every day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Reflecting on my time, I realized that the highlight of my volunteer experience caught me off guard. It wasn\u2019t holding memorable art exhibition, nor was it even the magical experience of releasing newborn turtles. <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3352 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.blogcielomareterra.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/IMG_2222-225x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.blogcielomareterra.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/IMG_2222-225x300.jpeg 225w, https:\/\/www.blogcielomareterra.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/IMG_2222-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.blogcielomareterra.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/IMG_2222-1152x1536.jpeg 1152w, https:\/\/www.blogcielomareterra.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/IMG_2222-1536x2048.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/www.blogcielomareterra.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/IMG_2222-scaled.jpeg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/>The most powerful part of my time here was the simple act of observing people\u2014both locals and my fellow volunteers from around the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The compassion, unconditional care, and genuine joy in sharing that my new friends have shown me are invaluable lessons\u2014qualities I will carry with me for a lifetime. Casa Lauro\u2014our home in the hamlet of Corsano\u2014became both a stronghold and the starting point of countless memories. From planning morning hikes to waterfalls in the kitchen at 3 am to cooking dishes with names we couldn\u2019t even pronounce, living together was a time full of joy. <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-3349\" src=\"https:\/\/www.blogcielomareterra.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/IMG_6646-300x200.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.blogcielomareterra.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/IMG_6646-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.blogcielomareterra.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/IMG_6646-1024x683.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/www.blogcielomareterra.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/IMG_6646-768x512.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.blogcielomareterra.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/IMG_6646-1536x1024.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/www.blogcielomareterra.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/IMG_6646-2048x1366.jpeg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><br \/>\nExploring the Amalfi Coast, preparing meals, and even hitch-hiking together felt just as much a part of the project as doing office work and supporting our two summer initiatives, \u201cMake it Blue\u201d and \u201cMake it Green\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, I encountered locals who showed me the essence of community in southern Italy. Don\u2019t let the warm smiles of local farmers or vendors fool you\u2014these people work hard and tirelessly, driven by values that place community at the heart of everything.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">That\u2019s why they organize traditional Tarantella dances and invite everyone to join, bake pizza on a grand scale for the whole street, share buckets of figs if a neighbor\u2019s harvest has failed, and always offer a ride, expecting nothing in return.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-3354\" src=\"https:\/\/www.blogcielomareterra.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/IMG_9213-225x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.blogcielomareterra.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/IMG_9213-225x300.jpeg 225w, https:\/\/www.blogcielomareterra.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/IMG_9213-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.blogcielomareterra.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/IMG_9213-1152x1536.jpeg 1152w, https:\/\/www.blogcielomareterra.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/IMG_9213-1536x2048.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/www.blogcielomareterra.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/IMG_9213-scaled.jpeg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">In other words, this region and these people inspire me to be a better version of myself\u2014and that\u2019s more than I could have ever asked for.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">However, what could better reflect the enlightenment I found at ACARBIO than the fact that I\u2019ve started learning Italian and will soon return for an 8-month project in Tramonti, a place so dear to my heart.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">By Alyona Matveeva<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you are not sure who you want to be, Be kind.
