Chapter six: what we didn’t know we were looking for

Make It Green 2025 was much more than a volunteering project. For us, it became a shared life experience. Over six weeks, Tramonti transformed from an unfamiliar place into a home, shaped not only by its landscapes but, above all, by the people we lived and worked with.
We arrived with different motivations: some looking for an international experience, some wanting to contribute to environmental protection, others simply searching for a break from routine. What we found was a strong sense of belonging. Environmental actions, cleaning paths, restoring public spaces, painting murals, gave us a common goal, but their true value was in how they brought us together.
Living and working side by side taught us real cooperation. We learned how to share responsibilities, manage fatigue, face unexpected challenges, and navigate cultural and personal differences. Sustainability, for us, stopped being just an environmental concept and became something human: taking care of one another, listening, adapting, and growing together.
The rhythm of intense work was balanced by simple but meaningful moments: cooking together, swimming at night, walking without a destination, talking until late. These everyday experiences created strong bonds and turned a group of individuals into a family.

Our connection with the local community gave purpose to everything we did. Small gestures, shared celebrations, spontaneous conversations, and mutual curiosity made us feel welcome and appreciated. This human exchange made our contribution feel real and reciprocal.
In the end, what we take home is not only memories or photos, but a change in perspective. We leave with new ways of seeing time, community, and ourselves. Make It Green reminded us that you can live with less, feel more, and that “home” is not a place, but the people you choose to share your days with.
Goodbye dear readers, we all hope to share much more of our adventures with you!
With eyes full of tears (and big smiles),
